Description
Kaunan is a rune of unknown origin. It is found in early inscriptions, but its meaning is uncertain. Some scholars believe that kaunan may represent the sound of a bullocking (a type of animal), while others believe it may be a symbol of fertility. However, the most likely explanation is that kaunan was simply a symbol of strength or power. Whatever its original meaning, kaunan came to be associated with the god Thor, and it was often used as a protective charm against thunder and lightning. Today, kaunan is still used as a symbol of strength and power, and it is often used to represent Thor in modern artwork and literature. It most likely was used to produce the harsh or stopping “c” or “k” sound, and lives on in the form of the modern letter “K”
